happiness is a habit-
cultivate it.

my best "wo"man speech:

First off I want to give a round of applause for May because she looks
absolutely stunning today.

And Marvin, I'm surprised you're not wearing boardshorts, flip flops and
carrying a surfboard right now.

On behalf of Marvin and May I want to thank everyone for taking part in this
very special day. It is with the love and support of everyone in this room
that has made this momentous occasion possible.

For those of you who don't know me, I'm Eileen, Marvin's best friend. I
know some of you may think it's odd that he chose a female as his best
"wo"man but I am honored to have been chosen especially beating out his
brothers Jon and Dave. <neener neener neener>

I've known Marvin for about 12 years now ever since high school and when
Marvin asked me to be his best "wo"man I was obviously very ecstatic. But
then I realized I would have to give a speech, and that at some point during
that speech I would have to say something nice about Marvin. The problem is
I've always thought of Marvin as an older brother or my Kuya so when it
comes to talking about marvin all I could think about was teasing him like
he teases me so please bear with me while I try to withhold my sarcasm.

Marvin and May have shared many romantic moments together and I would like
you both to share one with us all here today.

May can you please put your left hand flat on the table and Marvin please
can you place your hand on top of hers.

Perfect, now I want you to remember and treasure this moment
forever....because this is the last time that Marvin will ever have the
upper hand on May now that they're married. (lol)

In all the years I have known Marvin, I have never seen him happier than he
is when he is with May. I can even remember the day I got the phone call
when he told me he was going to ask May to marry him. Hearing his voice, I
knew that he had never been so sure of something in his entire life. For
those of you that don't believe in love at first sight, Marvin and May can
definitely prove you wrong.

Writing this speech was really emotional for me for three reasons,

first off because I couldn't be happier for my bestest bud marvin and the
love of his life may.

second because I'm a girl and this is why girls aren't normally best men
because we're just too emotional.

and third because I'm almost 30 and he got married before me!!

----- Marvin you were supposed to be in my bridal party first remember?!
That was our deal.

But I guess it works out because I really wouldn't want to see Marvin in a
bridesmaid dress anyways.

So as I was flipping through the pages of my old journals for inspiration to
write this speech, I came across a big yellow post it note that said "USE AT
MY WEDDING" and since we really have no idea when or IF that is ever going
to happen, I decided that there wouldn't be a more perfect time to use it
than now. So here goes...

"Love is a temporary madness. It erupts like an earthquake and then
subsides. And when it subsides you have to make a decision. You have to work
out whether your roots have become so entwined together that it is
inconceivable that you should ever part. Because this is what love is. Love
is not breath- less- ness, it is not excitement, it is not the endless
promise of eternal passion. That is just being "in love" which any of us can
convince ourselves we are in. Love itself is what is left over when being in
love has burned away, and this is both a blessing and a fortunate accident."

Marvin and May both of your roots will grow towards each other, and when all
the pretty blossoms have fallen from your branches you will find that
together you are now one beautiful and strong tree and not two.

Ladies and Gentleman can you please all stand --- lift your glasses --- and
let's toast to the bride and groom Mr and Mrs Selga.

That their roots will intertwine to an endless future full of love and
compassion. I love you both!

We come to love not by finding the perfect person,
but by learning to see an imperfect person perfectly.

and if you're hurting
i will replace the noise with silence instead
flushing out your head

if you like it violent
we can play rough and tumble
fall into bed
and i won't breathe so you can recover

when you're in pieces
just follow the echo of my voice
it's okay
tune into that frequency

don't fight your reflex
embrace the instinct
you can feel your way
through the bed and weak face in the end

cause it breaks my heart
that we live this way
i know people need love
cause them people never play the game
and we talk the talk
we communicate
the people need love
those people never play the game

pleasure for pleasure
it eases consequence
and love for a fall
but i know you love to take a risk

the past is weakness
don't beg the question when the answer is war
there are moments when i'm overcome

and it breaks my heart
in love
